Contact lenses are used to correct the same vision problems that eyeglasses correct. Millions of people in the U.S. wear them. Unfortunately, according to a recent study, a large portion of this population doesn’t know how to use or care for their lenses properly. This misinformation has led to almost a million cases of eye infection every year in the U.S., the study finds. Contact lenses and keratitis One of the most common infections caused by contact lens misuse is keratitis. A condition that causes the cornea to become inflamed, keratitis can be a very painful eye condition that, in severe cases, can lead to blindness. Symptoms of keratitis include redness, watering, blurred vision, light sensitivity, and pain.
